I have to echo Thomas and offer my congrats and thanks to Chris and his Dad and all in the DMU gang for the excellent effort in getting our babies in pristine condition. Can't wait for the Gala and the 'surprises'.
Is Santa making an early appearance? With another couple of 104's in tow?

Well the information's out, thanks for all the support! Please see a separate thread I've created in the gala section for discussion of all the goodies we've got planned (plus my reply to the questions above)

I have no times yet, but I'm expecting them this week.
However we know there will be two trips from Stoke to Froghall in the moring with another two in the other direction in the evening. This is on Saturday only.
Have you seen that the Shareholder's Specials are now fully booked? The DMUs will take a 4 figure number over the day so the response must have been impressive...

Hi Chris.
Good to hear of the interest.
Will the Oakamoor leg be a permanent service do you know?
I would like to go on it to maybe video the trip but would have to choose a less-crowded day!
Maybe this could be run every Wednesday as it would not need a lot of 'staff' to run it would it?
I know it's a short 'un compared to the full route but there are much shorter ones elsewhere (Ecclesbourne - Wirksworth to Ravenstor for one).
Cheers.

The Oakamoor leg is definitely not a permanent service, we have been granted running on an extremely limited basis, the main reason being I believe the track isn't too good! (not a concrete sleeper in sight :-))
Therefore these "less crowded" days probably won't exist I'm afraid...and won't do for some months/years.
The section isn't actually that small, it is longer than Cheddleton to Leekbrook but not quite as long as Consall-Froghall. I think it pushes "total milage" of the line to about 7 miles.

Hi Chris,
Ah well. It will just have to be a 'crush and bear it' trip then.
I'll leave the v. expensive camera at home I think!
Cheers.

Hi Chris, I've just seen on your website that there will be no railcar day this year,is this because the center car will not be ready in time or have the CVR decided not to have one. Anyway it will be sorely missed by myself and other dmu enthusiasts, Keep up the good work .Thomas

I don't think its got much to do with the centre car. Just noticed in the CVR 2009 timetable that there wasn't one listed. Hopefully 2009 will see the bulk of the interior completed on the centre car though

Thanks for that Chris, keep up the good work on the centre car, looking forward to seeing the 3 car DMU running, hopefully its an oversight on the railway timetable. Thomas

Hey Chris, a couple of 'pin-ups' for you. Taken at Wirksworth and Ravenstor yesterday. Iris sounded a bit rough though to me. Maybe needs a bit of CVR TLC? Plus don't know what the 'half-round' loco is. Obviously an underground vehicle of some kind. Any ideas?

Iris is fitted with (authentic for its class) AEC engines which have never been as smooth/reliable/easy to maintain/easy to get parts for as their Leyland counterparts. It may be those which you were hearing.
The restoration has been done by a small team at the Midland Railway Butterley who can produce inspiring vehicles. Iris is one and the blue Class 101 M51188 (also at the Ecclesbourne Valley railway) is another example of a great vehicle!
The battery loco is from London Transport and is undergoing tests I believe. It is done by the commercial arm of the EVR which, I presume, may be one the reasons they have been able to develop so quickly, as they always seem to have things in for testing on their line. I've sometimes wondered why more machines aren't brought to the CVR for testing to bring in extra revenue, especially on the (out of the way) Oakamoor section. Maybe the work just isn't out there...

Thanks Chris.
Knowledgeable and interesting information as usual.
I would have thought there was plenty of work in testing but obviously predominantly overhead electric powered so rules out the CVR.
I asked if IRIS was being loaned out anywhere this year but it is not booked anywhere. Shame really as it seems to be a little under-exposed at the EVR for such a fine machine.
