Is a new forum really required? I'm sure the existing CVR forum/Newsgroup can cope with the opinions on the subject...

I have to agree with DMU that this could have been kept on this forum, the membership on the new Leekbrook forum is at 5 after 1 month. I realise that you wanted to open it out to non cvr members as well but how do they know of its existance? Watering down this forum won't help either one to survive as has been proved by the amount of posting here last month. OK good luck with it but it will be interesting to see if one or both forums survive at the end of the year. Thomas

Thanks for the comments on the new forum.
The idea was to create a more focused discussion on the one topic and to exploit this new forum to get outsiders views like the locality around Leekbrook, who are not particularly interested in the railway and not just for us railway fanatics.
That was the intention anyway, but since I announced it on the CVR newsletter I was persuaded by a couple of the 'bosses' to keep it low-key at the moment due to the sensitivity of the matter in negotiations to buy the extension.
So I was happy to postpone my plans to publicise it in the local press and local radio etc. After all I don't want to shoot myself in my foot as I only want success for the extension.
So for now it will serve as a 'plaything' within the CVR types and eventually could be opened for a more public involvement when the time is right.
It is not a matter of 'surviving' as the forums don't cost anything to run and my opinion is you can't have too many outlets for opinions.

Thanks Barry for explaining the situation with the new Leekbrook forum it just seemed as though there wasn't a great deal of interest in it. As for the forums surviving it can only be judged on the number of posts and reads it gets and recently this forum seems to depend on 3 main contributors for posting and these have dropped in the last few months. We needed some of the others to help out and keep it going as it can present a differing opinion to the Offical website run on behalf of the Company. Thomas

Hi Thomas,
Yes that is precisely why I set these forums up, as 'independent' forums. So that only people who are genuinely interested in offering comment and even criticism can air their views anonymously without feeling constricted in any way if the forum was attached to the CVR itself.
As I am retired and have no money to spend on advertising (sob story ends) I cannot advertise the forums unless it is free so it's really up to word-of-mouth recommendations really.
With the new Leekbrook one however, with it possibly being a landmark issue in the town of Leek and surrounding areas, I was hoping to get free publicity in the press for that, which is one reason I isolated the subject.
But as I say, I am not pressing for it's exposure just yet. Will worry about that when the time is right.
As for this forum, many times I thought of scrapping it as it has no real activity but I do enjoy reading from the magnificent three :-) and as long as there is just one regular contributor I will keep it going. Who knows, it may all take off one day.
Thanks for staying with us.
