It looks like steam has returned to the CVR in the form of 5197 coming back from down south.
The air problems seemed to have been cured by adding a compressor or something on top of the tender...
With another steam test for 80098 on the way as well fingers crossed all 5 booked locos will be available for the Steam & Diesel Summer Special weekend in a few days.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the info.
I am in particularly a fan of the 4MT so that is the one I will be looking forward to seeing this weekend. Despite the 'Yank' being a steamer, somehow it just never appeals to me as it should. To my mind it really doesn't fit on a British Railways Preservation site. But having said that, all steam is welcome!

Well enjoy the current CVR Steam while it's still around as I believe the boiler tickets for both the 4MT & the S160 expire soon, so while they are being overhauled something else will have to make an appearance.

Come on Barry it's reputed that the Churnet Valley did actually have at least one S160 running down the line with the war effort, how can you not love that whistle. Thomas

Typical.
The Yanks have to muscle in on our war effort, even on our local Railways!
:-)
Didn't know that fact Thomas.

It would seem that 5197 has left the railway to see out its final year of service. That leaves "4F" 44422 & "Large Prairie" 5199 operating CVR steam services in 2009.

With 3 locos on roster there would not be a lot of income for the owners, so I presume with the S160 due for it's 10 year overhaul, the owner would want to maximise its income to pay for it. It could be a long job depending on amount of restoration and money. The good news is that the second S160 seems to be progressing well and perhaps it won't be to long before we hear the haunting sound ofthe brilliant whistle down the valley again. I wonder if we could achieve 100,000 visitors per yearwhether we could afford to keep 3 locos on roster. Thomas
