I've remained silent and always remained loyal to all things to do with the CVR for a long time, but on this issue I feel I ought to open up and make my feelings known.
I once again have been given the impression that the CVR operating staff just have no manners, or any kind of 'public-relationship' sense when they encounter enthusiasts.
I was at my occasional spot at Leekbrook today. Patiently waiting on the disused plaform to take a few more photos to put on the CVR forum I run.
I shot a few of 80098 arriving, then trekked round to the level crossing to find a few of the 'gang' trying to replace the crossing gate there. I had my expensive camera and also my dog on a lead but I immediately joined in the task trying to lift the heavy gate onto the hinges. Eventually the loco crew were called over to help too. I was in charge of the bottom hinge! We got the gate on eventually and trapped my foot in the bargain! No big issue really but I thought my help might have warranted a thank you or even a nod or a smile. But no, they all grumpily trekked away in silence and when the loco went past me none of them smiled or even made eye contact. It's as if I was not welcome and was not to be spoken to at all unless absolutely necessary.
Whatever is the matter with them? Do they assume everyone who is at Leekbrook taking photos are parasites who just want to take and not give? 'Tarring and brushes' comes to mind. I very nearly ripped up my membership card and threw it after the train disappearing in Cheddleton tunnel, as I do a lot for the CVR in my own way by publicising it, running this forum and offering anyone who is interested any help I can give.
I can't spare the time or have the health to do on-site voluntary work so I try do what I can in other ways. I would also like to get to know some of the volunteers on the operations side but what hope is there when they look at you as if you are dirt!
For what it's worth, here is 80098 arriving at Leekbrook.
