What do you think of the 4VEP unit now that it is in service. I must admit it looks quite good and tidy on the outside and clean and roomy inside. The windows give a good alround view outside but it's a pity some of the windows are scratched. Hope it gets repainted soon. Thomas

I see that there is 1 coach from the 4VEP unit in Cheddleton yard, I assume that the other 3 have gone to Oakamoor. Anyone know why the 1 coach has been left behind is it the first for a repaint? Thomas

Hi Thomas, I would suspect that 3 coaches have gone south (Best place for them?) for winter storage, although I have heard a yarn that the diesl road is to be extended so it can sit in Cheddleton yard.
As for the fourth, it may be to have the batteries replaced etc. With not having a third rail to "juice it up", they can go flat pretty quick as you may also note a lack of dynomo gear to charge the batteries. Something else we will no doubt have to fit to make it work.
As for colour, I think the all over blue, or Blue and grey is fave at the mo.

Thanks Guard, Blue and grey sounds fine, but looking at the work the c+w have got on it could be a while before they get round to it. I noticed yesterday that a lot of buried s+t stuff had been moved from where a extension of the diesel road would go,it is now on the other side of the track, so perhaps there might be some truth in the rumour. So the diesel road extension is going to be used for the storing of the 4VEP unit, it should look good parked alongside the main line especially when it's repainted. The siding itself is making good progress, lets hope it does get finished. Thomas

Ok, the siding has been laid and looks good, just a bit of packing to finish it off. The 4vep unit is to be painted blue and grey and the first one will go in the carriage shed as soon as the carriage in there is finished, possibly in the next two weeks. All the windows will be taken out and resealed before painting commences. Each carriage will take about 3 weeks so hopefully by the end of June there will be some glorious b/g coaching stock to run up and down the line. Now what is going to pull it?.

The 4VEP unit will be in use fot the 40s weekend, come on be one of the first to ride on this fabulous train, ( I know it was in use for the Ghost train but most of us were to busy to ride it ). Part of the first car may be out of use due to water penetration while it was stored at Oakamoor and will be recified as soon as the carriage is available. The layout of the seats is excellent and seems very spacious, read the graffiti on the windows while you can and see what you're missing not living near London. Thomas

After all the hype on the 4vep unit it appears that the railway didn't even own it. It was purchased by a private individual who has now put it up for sale. What is going on, why are we not told about whats going on, no mention in the new Knotty,it must be the mushroom season.Thomas

Hi Thomas.
I've long since given up trying to work out what goes on at the CVR.
One reason I started this forum was to hopefully encourage those 'in the know' to enlighten keen enthusiasts on things like this, but it seems even if the official CVR site/Knotty book won't give out info there is no hope for this forum either.
But good to hear from the few who utilises it and I'll keep it going as long as you need it.
Cheers.

This was owned with some other coaching stock which has also been sold either to new owners else where or back to the CVR/NSRC The 4VEP I understand is still for sale for £5000.

What a shame to see the way 4vep unit is slowly rusting away at Oakamoor. would the railway still want it if a fund to purchase it was started. 250 people each donating £20 I would have thought could be found, but as I say would the railway want it. Anyone know?

Now heres an interesting rumour don't know how true it is but theres something to it, the 4VEP was sold to a scrapman by an ex director. the railway has now bought it from the scrapman, how odd. Thomas
